Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locate and apply relevant documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and effective completion of rail haulage operations to meet all required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

demonstrates completion of conducting rail haulage operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

organising work activities to comply with site standards

conducts pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown vehicle and equipment procedures and checks

correct use of vehicle controls and systems

operate rail vehicle

load and unload personnel and materials

carry out towing and pushing of equipment and plant

position, load and unload rake

carry out inspections and identify faults

conduct operational maintenance including servicing, lubrication and cleaning

process written records and reports


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of conducting rail haulage operations through:

apply problem solving skills to rail haulage operations issues

location of equipment relative to working environment

ventilation system and conditions

rail vehicle maintenance requirements and procedures

recording, reporting and handover procedures

site environmental requirements, procedures and constraints related to rail vehicles

bucket loading procedures

basic geological and technical data

isolation procedures

locomotive parking techniques

types of rail operations

rail signaling system characteristics

reporting procedures

start up and shutdown procedures
